This is a wonderful large-scale print that features the artwork of EDWARD GOREY. The illustration was for one of Gorey's "Dogear Wryde" postcards - from the "Scenes de Ballet" series designed for the New York City Ballet in 1976. Gorey was a true fan of the ballet, and his dedication to the art comes through in all of his drawings of ballerinas. This features fictional ballet performers Georges Bumby (as Sigismondo) and Hortense Pasta-Frobenius in "Elphine: ou, la Sylphe de la Foret Noire."
The print was of a folio of work published in 1979 - the back bears the number 24 and a smaller illustration from a a different book.
It measures approx. 15 1/2" x 11" - with the image this large you can really see the intricate line work that Edward Gorey was famous for.
It is in very good condition and comes in an archival plastic sleeve. We order special flat boxes that have three stiff cardboard inserts inside for safe shipping.
Suitable for framing, this would make a special gift for the Edward Gorey enthusiast, or the perfect addition to your own collection!
