Description

What do you remember when you think of The Knollwood Tavern?

Well....for my sister & I, it was where we grew up. Seriously! Our grandfather bought the tavern in 1949 when our dad was just a baby....he too grew up in a bar. When I was born in 1971, our grandfather handed the keys to my dad & said it was now his! For my sister (Lisa Brink-Hansen) & I, it was our playground. We spent hours perfecting our pinball game & playing shuffleboard....and who wouldn't love to hang out with the regulars. The guys had nicknames like Breezy, Curly, Chief, Shorty, Truckie & my personal favorite...Foxy. We had so much fun picking out our favorite oldies songs to listen & dance to on the vintage Juke box & felt pretty special when our dad would let us go behind the bar to make our own Shirley Temples. Our dad knew everyone in town & you couldn't help but like him...he would take the time to get to know you! It didn't matter if you had a dime to your name or way too many dimes for your own good, he made everyone feel welcome & special when they walked through those doors & beyond. Some of his regulars became his best friends & you could find them hanging out at our house after a day of hunting or fishing or showing off their hot rods.

One of the best annual traditions at The Knollwood would have to be Homecoming! My sister & I would get to be a part of it every year & our parents would put us behind the bar to wash all the glasses & pick up all the empties on the floor...kept us busy & it was fun to be a part of the craziness of Homecoming at WMU.

The reason we are offering these retro beer mug graphic tees is because it has been 27 years since our dad passed away. Ironically, he lost his life in a car crash with 2 of his Knollwood Tavern friends while riding in a vintage corvette.

Our mom was pretty successful at taking over the tavern after he passed, but after 7 years, she was ready to retire & my sister & I each had different life goals that we wanted to pursue. Our last Homecoming & our closing night was Homecoming 1998.....& after 49 years the tavern was no more. The property was sold to WMU & today you would never know it existed on west campus.

Every year since the tavern has closed, we see & meet people who have special memories of The Knollwood Tavern too & love to share their stories with us. We have laughed & cried together over their tales & it never gets old. We are constantly told that we should come up with a way to keep the memories & stories alive & would we consider making up "cool" t-shirts. Well....with everyone's love of the WMU Homecoming & any other occasion you can think of to buy one for yourself or as a gift, we thought this would be a perfect way to offer these conversation t-shirts to you year round.

Here's the 411 on the t-shirt:
Gildan ultra cotton brand short sleeve. 50% cotton, 50% polyester (pre-shrunk)
Unisex size SMALL
Dark Heather with white graphics
$20 each / shipping $5

Thank you for your interest! If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us. We would also love to hear your Knollwood Tavern story!

Cheers & go WMU Broncos!
