The former owner of my home was a potter. For whatever reason, he ended up burying his second-rate pieces in the ground. Now, whenever I stick a shovel in the yard, I find fully glazed, beautiful chunks of pottery. I take the chunks and break them into small shards to create unique pieces of jewelry. The potter has recently passed away, so I feel honored to be giving some of his forgotten pieces a second life.

When I take my jewelry to an art fair or market, the first thing my customers say when they pick up my pieces is, “Everything is so lightweight!” Shoppers are always pleasantly surprised by this fact.

In 2015, I met Scott Obernberger of Twice Baked Pottery at an art fair and he told me I should visit his Racine, WI workshop to pick up his "duds" and use them to create more jewelry. His so-called duds are beautiful and I find it very hard to break them! These earrings are made from some of Scott's rejected pieces.

These shards are 1.25" long and are quite thin, which helps keep them lightweight. They are a gorgeous bright blue with patches of black. They are wrapped with silver-colored jewelry wire and hang from hypoallergenic stainless-steel hooks.
