Description

Paavo (Paul) Hyttinen was born in Finland and immigrated with an extended family of painters in the 1950's. This family has become well known in Canada for their landscapes in the Muskoka and Algonquin Park areas of the province.

The Jalava family arrived from Helsinki Finland in 1952 and included Mauri and Anna-Liisa Jalava, Mauri’s brother Erkki and his wife, also named Anna-Liisa, their mother Orvokki and Mauri’s brother-in-law, Paavo (Paul) Hyttinen.

Paul Hyttinen, Anna Jalava and Erkki Jalava have all become listed Canadian artists and their works are represented by the National Gallery of Canada.

This painting starts with a forest path going deeper into the enclosed woods of an early autumn morning. His works are different from the rest of the Jalava family in that his paintings are complete little worlds, imaginary places, or a dream, locked away, waiting to be opened.

In this hypnotic inviting painting, the central path has a sinuous, sensual motion, a temptation to go further into the forest.

The vintage frame and painting are in good condition, ready to hang.
