Mail Art: Mixed media on museum board, unframed

(First 2 images show front and backsides)

Postcards from the Edge Series: This unique and unusual piece of miniature artwork is faux postal or mail art, and it can certainly go through the mail for extra postage...if you dare! I've been making mail art as an art form since 1989 and I love the intimacy of size and secrecy of letter, almost like a visual journal page. These original artworks are fully decorated both front and back utilizing cut up and reworked prints of my journal pages, original paintings and drawings, pen, ink, marker, paint, collage, rubber stamps, tape, postage stamps and anything else I can think of...

The front side is a mixed media drawing from a figure drawing group. This drawing group is in a theater rehearsal space, and sometimes the models have props or sets. So the model was leaning over the table. I love the line of the figure and the angle. So when I was considering what to paint for a local fundraiser, I wanted to paint a minotaur. And thinking of this drawing, I put my minotaur in this same pose. This card is the sketch or model for my minotaur! There is also some cool collage texture and hand lettering here.

The back side is textured with some layers of old prints from my journal pages, collage materials, masking tape, and washi tape. I used real postage and some postal rubber stamps to give that faux poste effect.

Your Mail Art card comes in a protective plastic sleeve and is shipped United States Postal Service in a flat rate cardboard envelope to protect your precious cargo. Shipping price includes tracking.

I love everything Juliana Coles does. The stuff was interesting, beautiful. I waited to say something because it arrived late, and it is not Juliana's fault. I ordered on december 11, she shipped on december 12, but it arrived yesterday, january 24. I am sure it was a problem of italian post, or a problem of customs.
