Description

EYE OF THE NEEDLE threads the impossible through a sculpture of success and struggle. In a city that never sleeps, the breaching dawn greets the twinkling lights of those determined to beat it to the punch. Cabbies race the avenues, fingers dance across keys, and someone is singing in the shower. The kinetic pulse of New York resonates in every mind that seeks challenge, adventure, and, one hopes, success.

I have long lived life within my imagination, viewing a world filtered through the rabbit hole. Photography provides a canvas on which to paint my vision of the world and share it with those who are not behind my eyes. The captured image is a pale representation of the world I imagined. One does not see the sea of colors or feel the emotions I experienced when the shutter struck. The challenge, then, is to reshape the constructs of my imagination around the skeleton of the photograph. Rather than alter the image to create a new reality, I use my tools to coax my reality from behind the physical veil. Brushing on layers of manipulation often reveals hues, patterns and textures of which I was unaware. So the process becomes a creative conversation, each side informing the other of the final reality.

The paper is carefully selected for each image as the texture and brightness of the paper surface is the foundation for the photographic structure. The image is then polished further to accommodate the characteristics and quirks of the paper surface. I print each edition at time of purchase to preserve the integrity of the image's color and intensity. As a finished piece, I present to you a window into my world, awhirl with the mad and the beautiful.
