Homeward: The Copper Prince

When fishermen started fishing for crab in the 1950's there were no holding tanks or modern pots. When they caught crab they simply piled it up on the deck and headed to the cannery. They fabricated pots from chicken wire and used wood for the frames. Their buoys were 5 gallon kegs and each boat painted them a different color to distinguish their gear. This picture is the Copper Prince in 1954 heading to the cannery in Katchemak Bay just outside Homer, AK.
