Description

Perfect for your next formal event---an elegant garland for your hair. Tiny white, genuine seashells accent this headdress. Victorians adored 'nature' and often incorporated it into their formal attired.

I adapt my headdresses with the modern reenactress in mind. A coronet style doesn't work with everyone's hair so I offer this crescent-shaped style as well.

-----------------------------------------------------------
The fashion plates are from La Modes Illustree, February 1862. The headpiece line drawing is from Godey's, April 1864.

Peterson's, July 1864
The water-lilies appear to be at present to be the favorite flowers for head-dresses for evening wear, with small helices (those known as Venetian shells) upon the green leaves, and the flowers themselves glistening with dew-drops. Sprays of coral, with sea-weeds and small shells clinging to them are also very fashionable..."

Godey’s, February 1860
Head-dresses are still mostly of the fancy kind, and very elegant and graceful.

Godey’s, January 1861
For all light tissues [fabric description], flowers or foliage in bouquets, wreaths, agrafes, etc., are the most suitable ornaments.

Peterson’s, October 1864
In choosing between these and other head-dresses, ladies should always bear in mind their style and complexion, as well as the dress they expect to wear with the head-dress.

Godey’s, March 1864
Artificial flowers are in great demand, and are exquisitely perfect…..

Godey’s, January 1865
The newest flowers are not copies from nature; they are very original, and when made with taste are highly effective.
