About 3 years ago a co-worker brought me a stringer of fish that his neighbor had caught. There were sunfish of all sizes and I kept them on ice until I had a chance to make my plaster molds. Two of the fish were almost the same size, which gave me the idea to use them together in the same design. The Yin Yang Fish Art Tile was born.
A collection of ceramic tiles is a wonderful way to decorate a bathroom since they are impervious to water and humidity. Do you have any friends or family who are Pisces? Fishermen? Young boys seem to love these fish too -- they always point then out to their parents in my booth at festivals.
This tile is approximately 6” in diameter and has a small hole with a hanging cord. The Green Tea glaze does a great job of highlighting the details in the fins and scales. The tile is made using liquid clay slip and the back is slightly hollow. Both sides are glazed and the back is signed and dated and carries the FRC studio stamp.
If you'd like to use this tile as a focal point in a tile installation please contact me for a custom tile with unglazed back and no hanging hole.
