Description

Come Dressed For Your Own Gothic Romance

This jacket happened after I went to go and see Crimson Peak and was inspired by the opulence of the costume design and the large sleeves of late era Victorian garments, combined with a dash of details from military uniforms of ages past.

The body of the jacket is not super tight, but is fairly close cut, the main feature being the large leg ‘o mutton sleeves and the draped cowl bustle set into the back waist. The jacket can button up at the centre front with small loops of golden-yellow cord over small buttons set into fabric & lace flowers. It can button all the way up, but was made more in mind with just being buttoned in and below the waist - both options are shown in the pictures.

The forearm section of the sleeves are fairly narrow and the cuffs are trimmed with a row of taffeta pleats. This pleated trim is also set inside the collar and along the lower edge of the bustle section.

Flowers made of matching fabric and set with golden/brassy buttons in their centres are scattered about the jacket, while taffeta & lace versions are set onto the shoulder to echo the look of military style epaulets. Gold woven braid on the waistline and around the collar also add to the overall richness.

Outer Fabric: Main - 100% synthetic velour in deep purple. Pleat trim - Crushed nylon taffeta in golden-yellow. Trim: Cotton & synthetic blend woven braid in gold, synthetic lace in black. Buttons: Cast plastic buttons with gold/brassy finish.

Lining (fully lined): Crushed nylon taffeta in golden-yellow.

Sizing: The jacket is approximately a size 34 - it has finished measurements of 102cm around the bust and 84cm at the waist, it is cut high over the hip so if the waist and bust are ok that should be fine. The person in the pictures has a bust of 93cm and a waist of 73cm. If you have any questions at all about sizing please feel free to ask! Need a different size – no problem!

Custom orders: I will happily make a version of this item especially for you! :-) If you love this item but the size is not for you, or there is some other detail/colour you would like done differently, please contact me and we can talk about what you are looking for. I can’t always find the same fabrics/trims/etc. again, but I will try my best to find equally good options and will always check that you are happy with the choice before proceeding.

Washing/Garment care: I am not a specialist when it comes to washing clothes, so I would strongly recommend speaking to a cleaning professional for best results. I will provide as much information about the materials as I can to help in this regard. In general though, I can say that this *is not* the type of garment you will be able to just throw in the washing machine/drier!

Such a beautiful jacket and the most seamless (!) design process. Ceilidh's style was the source of inspiration; this combined with her access to beautiful materials, skill and patience the reasons I now have this stunning addition to my wardrobe : )

Payments

Secure options
Etsy keeps your payment information secure. Etsy shops never receive your credit card information.
For international orders, most people choose the PayPal option, but if you would like to do a bank transfer/direct deposit, please select the “Other” option and I will send you an invoice with my banking details. I cannot offer “Direct Checkout” because Etsy has not yet enabled it to work in my country, sorry!

If you are buying from within South Africa please select the “Other” option and I will send you an invoice with my banking details so that you can just do an EFT, it's easiest for both of us.

Orders will only be shipped once the payment has been confirmed.

Returns & exchanges

In principle, all sales are final. The one-off, custom nature of the items, as well as the international nature of most sales, makes orchestrating returns/refunds really impractical.

I try to make sure that every item I list has good pictures, a clear description and as much detailed info as possible to help you make an informed decision on any purchase. I am also happy to try and answer any additional questions you may have before you click “buy”.

If you do find yourself unhappy with some aspect of your order when it arrives, please do contact me and if there is anything I can reasonably do to try and help you I will.

Shipping policies

For international deliveries I use our national post offices EMS (Expedited Mail Services) option. This service usually delivers to your country in 7 working days and includes a tracking number and insurance.

Once the parcel reaches your country it will still have to go through customs, and I can’t say for certain how long this will take. I make every effort to ensure that the parcel is sent with the correct forms and all the information required to make this part of the process go as smoothly as possible.

Please note that certain customs taxes, import duties etc. may apply and are entirely up to you to pay. I have no way of knowing before if these might apply or how much they will be.

Some countries do not accept EMS parcels from South Africa. If this is the case, I will just have to make use of airmail (still with a tracking number and insurance wherever possible), which can take significantly longer, up to 3-4 weeks.

If you would like to make use of DHL Express delivery this can be arranged, just ask. It is certainly the quickest and most reliable way to send a parcel, but it is also very expensive (add approximately $100 on top of the regular shipping price).

Once payment has been confirmed I’ll try my best to get your order dispatched the same day, or first thing on the next business day as the case may be. To receive your parcel you will need to provide me with a physical address (no P.O boxes) that will have someone there during the day to accept the order. The courier service also requires a daytime telephone number in case of any complications.

Shipping rates will change each year on April 1st in accordance with the prices set by the South African Post Office.

For deliveries within South Africa I use the PostNet to PostNet service. This service promises delivery times of 24-48 hours to major centres and up to 72 hours for outlying areas and includes a tracking number. If you would like courier to your door, this can also be arranged – just ask, although it does cost more.
