How to Use this Study Guide
The study guide is divided into five weeks. Each week is comprised of Homework (to be done before class) and Classroom Discussion. The Homework will always consist of vocabulary, the reading assignment, parent discussion questions, and comprehension questions. There may also be additional assignments such as map or chart work or projects. It is recommended for students to review the Classroom Discussion prior to coming to class so that they are prepared to participate in discussion. It is not necessary for them to know every answer to these questions, but simply to be thinking about them ahead of time. Charts and maps are generally located in the back of the study guide. These are filled in throughout the weeks and turned in at the completion of the study guide. All other Homework is turned in weekly. Please pay attention to directions for vocabulary and assignments each week, as they may not always be the same.

Week One begins with the Homework assignments. If you are introducing this guide in a classroom, it is recommended that you read through the cover information about the book and author (Note that the Book Background may contain spoilers), go over how to use this guide, and familiarize the class with any charts or maps and Week One’s assignment
