Life is a luminous halo, a semi transparent envelope surrounding us from the beginning.

—Virginia Wolfe

**FEATURED IN ART DOLL QUARTERLY Winter 2010 PAGE 28**

One in a series of several shadow boxes using mostly old books as well as vintage found objects and assorted ephemera. Some of them embody a marionette style doll which I sculpted from clay and then very gently aged and distressed. The doll is loosely jointed with wire and wears a dainty hand made paper crown.

A quietly regal and romantic piece. This 12" by 9 &1/2 " box holds a once discarded pretty tattered book blended with vintage hardware, original vintage papers, chandelier crystals under-glazed with old music paper and the rusted inner workings of a forgotten music-box.

Mixed in are some aged mother of pearl buttons with their original thread still sewn in, a delicate glass cameo and an old brass key. A lovely caption gives the viewer a hint of the faded magical story that this little scene conveys....

"Luminous the crown, and holy, when each gem is set with care ."
