Description

Here we have an absolutely remarkable antique children's book titled "Dolly at the Seaside ABC," part of Father Tuck's "Doll" series. It dates to right around 1900, and was published by Raphael Tuck and Sons. Best known for their highly collectible Victorian postcards, Raphael Tuck did publish at least 100 books, mostly flat books for children, and they all feature the amazing chromolithographed illustrations found in this work.

Dolly at the Seaside ABC is quite a large book, with oversized die cut pages. This particular book also has tissue paper tucked between each page, almost certainly put there by a prior owner. The pages are made out of "untearable linen" - or so they say. I'm not about to test the theory.

The back is marked with the Raphael Tuck logo, as well as "No. 4572, Designed at the Studios in England, Art Publishers to Their Majesties the King & Queen." Raphael Tuck and Sons were awarded the "Royal Warrant of Appointment" by Queen Victoria in 1893. I'm assuming the "King & Queen" mentioned are King Edward VII (Queen Victoria's son who came to the throne upon her death in 1901) and his wife Queen Alexandra. King Edward died in 1910, so this book must have been published between 1901-1910.

14 pages, softcover, bound with staples

Condition
Good

Some bumps to the edges of the die cut, inscription at the top of the first page. Some foxing and a fair amount of staining to the back cover (see last picture). Minor staining to some interior pages as well. Ilustrations are incredibly vivid, no tears or loose pages.

Measurements: 7.5" x 14.5 "

I aim to please, and describe every item to the best of my ability. But please note that my vintage items often received frequent use back in their day, so may show visible signs of wear and age. Personally, I wouldn't have it any other way, as I treasure those marks of the past.

I am a hard core treasure hunter and will be stocking this shop with all of my very best vintage finds. Please stop by often - I promise there will be loads of new vintage goodies for your shopping pleasure!

Yes, absolutely! If you purchase multiple items from my shop, there is an excellent chance I will be able to combine everything into one package and give you a refund on any shipping overage.

However, if you order multiple fragile items, sometimes there is no shipping discount because of the amount of packaging necessary to keep your items safe during transit. Please contact me if you have specific concerns.

For large items such as sewing machines and typewriters, I follow shipping best practices to the letter to ensure that it arrives safely on your doorstep.

I am a vintage sewing machine collector who has purchased machines online only to have them arrive in pieces when they get to me. I will do everything I can to prevent that heartbreak from happening to my customers.
