Butterfly - Ceramic button

Stoneware ceramic button, handmade by me. Raised design of a butterfly. Cobalt and rust colored glaze against a gray speckled background. Back is unglazed, left natural. Initialed with year it was made.
1 & 3/4" (44 mm). 1/8" (4 mm) thick. Two 1.5 mm holes for threading. A bit hefty.

Nice focal for bags or to bead around. I've made these in sets and have a few spare singles that I am offering.

Stoneware is a high fire ceramic: 2380 degrees. Slowly cooled over 36 hours. Makes a very dense and durable finished piece. Takes quite a bashing. The glaze actually soaks partially into the clay instead of laying on top. It will never flake off. These have been fired in a gas relic of a kiln. The natural fuel results in earthy colors and feel, like the old Redwing crocks.
