Description

This raku-fired bowl has one small fish and one small seahorse swimming around it. It is 3.25 inches (8cm) high and 4 inches (10cm) wide at the top. You will receive the exact bowl pictured here. A color gift card is included that describes the dramatic process of raku-firing that resulted in the beautiful and rich glaze surface. It is a decorative work of art and not intended for serving food.

The gift card contains this information:

'Fish by Fire are designed by New Brunswick artist Karin Bach and produced at Tim Isaac Pottery. Each piece is forged through fire and water, in a firing technique known as Raku.
The tradition of Raku originated in 16th century Japan and spread to the west in the mid-20th century. It has evolved into a dramatic technique where the intuition and skill of the artist are involved directly with the firing process. Once brought to temperature, pieces are carefully removed from the red-hot kiln using long metal tongs. They are then placed in some combustible material which bursts into flame upon contact. After about one hour in this enclosed reduction chamber, pieces are taken from the ashes and quenched in water. Finally they are scrubbed with sand to reveal the wonderful and unique surface effects that have been created. www.timisaacpottery'

I take full responsibility for the piece arriving in your hands intact and ready to hang. I'm confident you will love the piece when you receive it. I'm often told the fish look even more impressive than the photos you have based your purchase on. However if for some reason you are not pleased with it, you may return it for a full refund. If you receive your purchase damaged, please contact me to work out arrangements for a refund or replacement. I am an excellent packer, so that is unlikely to happen. I will gladly refund the cost of an item returned in good condition, but not the shipping costs for either direction.
