About the author

Janet Barkhouse’s poems have been published in literary journals across the country. This second edition of her chapbook, Silence, was released in late 2015, and another chapbook of her Sable Island poems, illustrated by Zoe Lucas’s brilliant photos, will launch early in 2016. She’s written a book of creative non-fiction for young readers, Sable Island—Imagine!, as well as the text for a picture book based on her mother’s YA novel, Pit Pony. Another picture book, about a heroic girl keeping a light in the 1920s, will be published this September. Last year, Janet was an artist-in-residence (writing) with her daughter, singer/song-writer Alex Hickey, at Dalhousie Medical School through their Humanities-HEALS program
