This is a map tracing the last voyage of Herman Melville's fictional whaling ship "the Pequod," commanded by Captain Ahab in his pursuit of Moby Dick. My version is unique in that it pinpoints the locations of the Pequod's meetings with other ships, and also other notable incidents of the voyage.

The idea had its genesis in a rough sketch I did while reading Moby-Dick for a class several years ago; later I was commissioned to do a pen and ink version of the same map for a new edition of Moby-Dick published in 2007. After completing the commission, I went on to create yet another version for exhibition along with other artwork I was doing on the theme of Moby-Dick.

This item is a giclee reproduction of that work, printed with an Epson 9600 large format printer on heavy weight Somerset Velvet paper. The inks used are highly lightfast and the paper is archival.
