silk brocade, silk dupioni, cotton, velvet, garnets, beads

I made this dress around 2005, based on the Master John portrait of Princess Mary Tudor painted in 1544. The pattern was drafted by me, based on research into gowns of the period and took me approximately three months to complete. It has been worn about half a dozen times since then, and otherwise has been stored in a plastic bin in my closet.

Dress is a combination of machine stitching and hand stitching. The overskirt was hand stitched to the waistband using a cartridge pleat, and the back of the bodice laces up in a period-correct spiral method using hand-sewn eyelets. Beading, such as at the neckline of the bodice and on the French hood, were done by hand as well.

The dress will fit a US size 8 - 10, and is hemmed for a wearer of about 5'2". It should be worn over a corset and hoop skirt, which are not included in this listing.

This listing includes:
Silk Brocade Overskirt with velvet trim
Silk Brocade Bodice with velvet lined sleeves
False undersleeves of silk dupioni lined in cotton muslin
Chemise of cotton muslin
Underskirt with a lined silk dupioni front panel, all other panels in gray cotton
Beaded belt with chunk garnets, false garnets, and false pearls
2 necklaces beaded with false garnets and false pearls. Pendant made by Parrish Relics.
French hood of red velvet and beaded billiment, with a wired edge for shaping.

Gown comes from a smoke-free home with cats and dogs.
