Two-color - dark blue and salmon - woven coverlet by Daniel Pursell of Portsmouth, OH. Corner blocks marked "Manufactured by D. Pursell Portsmouth OHIO, Liberty. Two looms widths joined at the center, it measures 85.75'' x 75.5''.

Daniel Pursell produced coverlets from at least 1840 to sometime after 1850. From the The National Museum of American History, "Mr. Pursell was born in Ohio about 1815. He reportedly lived in Portsmouth, Scioto County, Ohio. He is listed in the 1850 Ohio Census as a 35-year-old weaver."

The fringe has separated at a couple locations. The top of the coverlet shows some loss. Some staining. Otherwise, the colors are still bright. Most recently stored in a cedar chest in a smoke-free home.
