colorful indian vegan silk scarf with women and prayers.

This scarf was created (by me) from vintage sari. The fabric is a high quality faux silk printed with sanskrit prayers and lovely women carrying lovely pots of water on their lovely heads.

This scarf is 40 inches by 20 inches.

The main part of the scarf has devanagari script. Devanageri is a compound of Deva (Hinduism, heavenly, divine, anything of excellence, masculine, benevolent male supernatural beings) and nagari (ancient Indian Brahmi script).

The print at both ends is in the Madhubani style. Madhubani is practiced in the Mithila region of Bihar state, India, most notably in the village of Madhubani. The technique is traditionally done by the women of villages. The painting was traditionally done on freshly plastered mud wall of huts, but now it is also done on cloth, hand-made paper, and canvas.

The composition of this scarf appears to bring together the masculine (Devanagari) and the feminine (Madhubani). I love it!

Hand wash this scarf in cool water. Hang to dry. Press on gentle heat under a cotton cloth, or steam.

I purchase saris from a single mother in Delhi, who runs her own business selling vintage and antique fabrics. She acquires these saris from women during trips to remote villages throughout India. In this way, she provides a much-needed income to these villages and to herself and her son. It's very cool being a part of this network!

This is a vintage sari and may have signs of wear such as small, light stains or tiny holes. I do my very best to insure that each piece is as close to perfect as possible, but please remember that they came from saris that have been worn and loved by one or more women. If there is something that is unacceptable to you, that I missed, I will gladly take the piece back.

DON'T WORRY! I take returns for ANY reason.
