Even though commercially made shampoos began emerging in the 1930's, WWII brought rationing on personal care items such as soap and having freshly washed hair was less of a priority. The first commercially made dry shampoo "minipoo" appeared in the early 1940's.

As with any of our items we offer, we insist on the best quality. The main ingredient of Minipoo was "magnesium carbonate", also known as gym chalk. As this does not seem like an acceptable ingredient for our use, we went back a bit and found an earlier recipe from 1918.

Ingredients-
Orris root powder- Obtained from a cultivar of iris often called Fleur-de-lis and can take up to five years to dry and age properly, after which the material smells like violet flowers. It has many benefits to the skin and hair and has been widely used for centuries.
Lavender powder- Sourced from France adds a lovely scent, antioxidant benefits and is a natural insect repellant.
Rice powder- used in beauty products for centuries, it absorbs oil and will not clog pores. Rice contains a high concentration of PABA. PABA (para aminobenzoic acid) is a very good sunscreen.
Rice also contains two other sun protecting agents – ferulic acid and allantoin.

As the original recipe says "more complex formulas do not appear to afford a better result". This product freshens, absorbs dirt and oils in the hair without leaving a chalky residue.

We have chosen bottles with a shaker insert and lid to allow for easier use and transport. This bottles in this listing have a metal cap for those who desire a more period appropriate container. Shake directly on hair, into hands or into the cap to apply with a cosmetic brush. Bottles are 3 ounce size and product weight is 1.5 ounces. Store in airtight container away from moisture. Product is shipped with plastic film under shaker top to ensure contents stay fresh and intact during transit. Remove before use.
