Description

DESCRIPTION:

Please note: If you wish to make a few bags from Charlie’s Aunt sewing patterns or books to sell, please read the rules in the "additional information" section of our policies page.

This is a PDF sewing pattern for the Salthouse Bag. A smart asymmetrical style with a simple 1940s coastal feel, it can be made in two or three contrasting fabrics or all in one. Named after one of my favourite places on the north Norfolk coast, it features a shaped front pocket trimmed with a button, and a long strap. Inside there is a patch pocket and the bag fastens with a snap on the inside facing.
The Salthouse Bag is a good practical size for everyday use and makes up well in a variety of textiles from wool tweed for autumn/winter to British linen fabrics in quirky prints for the summer months.

This PDF has 18 pages—10 pages including the cover, general, cutting out and step-by-step instructions, and 8 pattern sheets with the templates, which you must print and cut out. All of the templates are actual size.

The bag’s finished dimensions are: Height at tallest point 13” (33cm), Width at widest point 14” (36cm), Base width 1¾ (4.5cm)

You will need:

For whole bag excluding strap in one fabric:
¾ yard (75cm) of 60” (154cm) wide, or 1 yard (100m) of 44” (112cm) wide exterior fabric

To make in three fabrics with top and facing in fabric 1, exterior pocket and strap in fabric 2 and bottom in fabric 3, you will need:
½ yard (50cm) of 44” (112cm) wide or 1/3 yard (32cm) of 60” (154cm) wide exterior fabric 1
½ yard (50cm) of 60” (154cm) wide or 44” (112cm) wide contrast fabric 2
1/4 yard (25cm) of 36” (92cm) wide or 44” (112cm) wide exterior contrast fabric 3

For all combinations, you will need:
½ yard (50cm) of 36” (92cm) wide or 44” (112cm) wide lining fabric
½ yard (50cm) of 36” (92cm) wide firm sew-in interfacing
1 yard (92cm) of 36” (92cm) wide fusible interfacing
40” x 5” (105cm x 14cm) of fusible web
1 magnetic snap
1 big button (approx. 2”/5cm diameter)
Piece of plastic canvas for base approx. 1¾” (4.5cm) by 13” (33cm)

For purchased handle:
Leather or vinyl strap 1” (2.5cm) wide and approx. 32” (80cm) long
Piece of fusible web approx. 5” x 4” (13 x 10cm)

You will also need:
Sticky tape (to join pattern templates)
