This tree print is full of emotion for me. I have long been preoccupied with the many pollarded trees that I see around me in the Netherlands - their wild lust for life brutally chopped back every year, kept in check by a society which likes things neat and controlled at all times. On the other hand, the trees are stronger and healthier as a result. I still haven't got to the bottom of all my feelings about it.

Recently I received some powerfully sad family news. Out for a walk, my emotions began to overwhelm me, when I looked up and was stopped in my tracks. These pollarded trees, black and heavy and stunted against the cloudy sky, their new shoots bursting out again, were like my feelings up there looking down at me. I got home and set to work, to capture this feeling-made-concrete in a print.

It was not an easy print to make. The sky, fading from grey to white, was my first rainbow roll. Then the second time through the press I printed the black of the trees. These two colours didn't line up well, so I ordered a piece of equipment I had heard about from the USA, and made the whole edition again. If you're interested in the mechanics of it, you can read about the second time round here:

This is an original, handmade linoblock print, made in a small edition of 9, which means that yours will be one of very few in the world, something special to cherish. Each print is a unique work of art, and no two are exactly the same. If you would like to see your specific print before purchase, please contact me and I will e-mail you an image.

I take great care to ensure that my prints will last for a long time. I use only acid-free paper, printed with environmentally friendly Caligo safewash relief printing ink. The image itself is 15x15 cm (6" square), not including title and signature. The paper size is A4. Each print is signed along with its limited edition number (one of only 9 in existence). There may be some inky finger prints around the edges of the paper, but this won't show when you frame it, and is proof of its handmade status!

If you are unhappy with your purchase, please contact me and let me know the problem. I want all my customers to be happy customers and will do whatever I can to make sure you are too.

Shipping policies

I use DHL to send all original prints, with tracking in most countries. I try to send them within two working days of payment, and will send you a dispatch notice with the tracking number when they're on their way. From that point, delivery times are variable, but as a rule of thumb, it should take a day within the Netherlands, and around a week to the rest of Europe. Outside Europe it's roughly 1 to 2 weeks, although there can occasionally be customs delays. Let me know if you have any special delivery requirements such as gift wrapping or the inclusion of a personal message.

Payments

Secure options
Accepts Etsy Gift Cards and Etsy Credits
Etsy keeps your payment information secure. Etsy shops never receive your credit card information.
My preferred payment options are Paypal and credit card. You may also pay with bank deposit, but I will wait for payment to clear before shipping the item. If payment doesn’t come through I will contact you to let you know. If I don't get a reply after two weeks, the order will be cancelled. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to send me a message.

Additional policies

I am very happy to discuss special commissions, whether for a one-off print or for a bulk order. Unlike many artists who make precise copies of photographs, I love improvising from "imperfect" snapshots to produce the perfect result. Prices start at €190.00 for a custom print.
