Apron/Skirt - ‘Serue’
Material: Glass beads and cotton cloth
Country: Geelvink Bay, Irian Jaya - West Papua New Guinea
Description: These aprons were made by women but were worn by both men and women and are recognized by their colorful geometric designs. The glass trade beads are of Dutch origin and are centuries old and were brought to the island by Dutch traders.
This beaded skirt is complete and undamaged, exquisite quality

Dit is een kralen rokje of schort, gemaakt begin 20e eeuw in Irian Jaya, Papua New Guinea, Geelvink Baai.
Deze rokjes werden door vrouwen gemaakt, en meestal door vrouwen gedragen.
De gebruikte glaskraaltjes zijn afkomstig uit Nederland, antieke kralen door de Nederlandse handel in Papua Nieuw Guinea terechtgekomen. Kralen geregen op plantenvezels
De geometrische motieven zijn kenmerkend voor deze streek.
Kralenrokje is afgewerkt met franjes van verschillende soorten textiel, afkomstig uit Indonesië en omstreken. Ook textiel was schaars en daarom een statussymbool.
Dit rokje is van een uitzonderlijke kwaliteit, helemaal compleet inclusief sluiting van plantenvezel.
