Description

Demantoid Garnet - The Gem of the Csars! This gem was first discovered in Russia's Western Ural Mountains in 1868. Gem quality Demantoids are exceptionally rare - particularly in sizes over 1 carat. It has been speculated that all of the gem quality Demantoid Garnets ever mined, weighing over 1 carat, could fit cupped in any one person's hand.

Demantoid Garnets sized over 3 carats are borderline world-class sizes are very, very rare. For reference - large gem quality Diamonds and Sapphires are somewhat often mined, yielding cut stone sizes exceeding 30 or 40 carat.

It is speculated there have probably been less than 10 top quality Demantoids ever mined that have yielded gem stones ranging from 11 - 19 carat.

This is a rare gemstone indeed.

Stones with more intense green coloration are generally highly valued, but lighter stones of yellowish green display substantially more fire. The choice of stone color or fire can therefore be a matter of personal preference, with some preferring the more yellowish-green stones to the green stones.

Demantoid Garnets are prized for their fiery nature - and are often compared to diamonds.

Most Demantoids contain eye visible inclusions, and a few, small eye visible inclusions are present in this gem. However, eye visible inclusions are considered acceptable

This gem is very fiery in hand and not dark at all. This gem is a medium toned yellowish-green. Medium toned pear shaped stones are notoriously hard to photograph. Video is available upon request.

We have had this gem professionally graded at 5 out of 10, using the Gem Guide pricing format. Current wholesale pricing on this gem is $2,623 -- with retail pricing ranging from $3,934 to $5,246. As you can see, we have priced this gemstone to move!

Please feel free to contact me with any questions regarding this rare gem!
