This intricate solid sterling silver pendant is based on the planktonic foraminiferan, Morozovelloides. Morozovelloides, from the class Globigerinida, has an unusual spiral, perforated, multi-chambered calcium carbonate shell. The shell houses a single-celled amoeboid inhabitant that builds the shell for defense against predation. This species lived in the Eocene, approximately 50 million years ago. Studying foraminifera like Morozovelloides can help us understand what environmental conditions existed millions of years ago in the locations where they are found. Foraminiferan fossils are also an important tool in biostratigraphy, a method for finding petroleum.

The jewelry is created by 3D-printing in wax followed by metal casting in solid bronze, solid brass or solid sterling silver. The Morozovelloides pendant in these materials is left unpolished after casting to preserve fine detail. The gold-plated stainless steel is created by 3D-printing followed by bronze infusion and baking in a kiln, and finally, plated in gold.

To prevent waste and overstock, the jewelry is not made until you order. Please allow 3-4 weeks for printing and shipping. All items are gift-wrapped in original, recyclable Ontogenie packaging and then shipped insured by registered mail, worldwide.

The pendant will be shipped with a rose gold-plated, gold-plated or non-plated sterling silver anchor chain depending on whether you order the bronze, brass or silver pendant.

The pendant is 2.4cm wide by 2.6cm.
