Description

My quilts are different from most that you'll see. Most quilters piece small bits of fabric into fabulous patterns, stitched in wondrous patterns. These are gorgeous, but that's not how I quilt. When I quilt, it's all about the fabric.

I use larger blocks of fabric, sewn together in simple patterns that will show off each fabric. Then I quilt, by hand, around the designs in the fabric, making each part of the fabric's design come alive.

Look at the detailed quilting here; look how each petal of each flower is picked out individually. Many many hours went into hand-quilting this. In fact, I listened to the entire first audiobook of the Game of Thrones series while stitching this quilt!

This quilt is pink and orange (I love that color combination!), and it's about birds, who add turquoise to the palette. The blocks are banded with pink-and-orange batik, and the edge bound with orange satin. The backing is from a resale-shop duvet cover, in shades of pink and orange and blue and green.

The finished quilt measures 50" x 58", a great size for two watching television. A good size for a throw, or for a toddler bed. Or a picnic blanket, or a clean lay/play space, or a shawl for playing Little Match Girl ....

Neither I nor my cat smoke.

Speaking of washing: wash in cold and hang dry to maintain the new look. If you want it to develop a more vintage look, with puckering, wash it in warm and tumble dry.
