Description

So, we are offering as the title states a Lithograph on Tin of The Virgin Mary being taught by her mother Saint Anne, early 1900's. I spent a good bit of time researching this particular painting and only found one. The one I found stated it was the early 1900's as well. That painting had no info to impart and it sold. I searched for it for quite awhile but it always came up with Jesus in the picture too. I was excited when I found this because I grew up in the 50's. I was just a little kid but I remember this exact same picture in our house.

The frame measures 22-1/4" by 28-1/4". There are a few marks on the Tiger Veneer frame and a few chips on the frame, but these will be fairly easy to cover. I just rubbed some like shoe polish in those spots. Just let the pictures and our feedback be your be your guide and I feel sure you won't be disappointed. We ask. That if you have the time stop back here at VeiledThroughTime. We think out of the box so you never know what you might find.

Saint Anne (also known as Ann or Anna or Anne, from Hebrew Channah , meaning "favor" or "grace") of David's house and line, was the mother of the Virgin Mary and grandmother of Jesus Christ, according to Christian and Islamic tradition. Mary's mother is not named in the canonical gospels, nor in the Qur'an. Anne's name and that of her husband Joachim come only from New Testament apocrypha, of which the Protoevangelium of James (written perhaps around 150) seems to be the earliest that mentions them.

The role of the Messiah's grandparents in salvation history was commonly depicted in early medieval devotional art in a vertical double-Madonna arrangement known as the Virgin and Child with Saint Anne. Another subject has Anne teaching the Virgin Mary the Scriptures.
