This is an antique briefcase made in the 1930's from the hide of a black walrus. Most antique doctor bags were made from walrus hide back in the day and this is an example of what a briefcase made of walrus hide looks like. While I think the hide is striking I am relieved that the walrus can no longer be hunted down for its hide.

Product Details:

Although clearly distressed this is still a beautiful black walrus hide expandable briefcase/attache. The bag's patina looks great with a double strap buckled front & brass latch that can be locked if you get a vintage key that can be found. [ I recently purchased 110 vintage keys and will be checking to see if they work with this bag. If one does, it will come with the bag.] There are 3 large gusseted compartments under the flap with a full zippered compartment.

Length: 16 inches

Height: 11 inches

Width: 5 inches

This bag is in the 80 years old range and shows a lot of distress. One spot on the underside of the flap has a break on the leather & use along edges. However, it's a fully functional bag and the distressed condition enhances its appearance.

WWF Donation:

Walrus are now protected species and are no longer lawfully hunted down for their hide. Since this bag is made before 1973 it may be lawfully sold. However, in honor of the black walrus that sacrificed its life for this bag and to support the continued protection of this species $55 of the sale proceeds will be donated to the Adopt a Walrus Fund at the World Wildlife Fund. The $55 will be used to purchase an Adopt A Walrus Kit. The donation will be in the name of the buyer and the WWF will be directed to send the components of the kit to the buyer or a person the buyer chooses.
