Looking like it came from your grandmother's trunk, this lovely lace Christening gown is destined to become a family heirloom. Made from an early 1950s pattern, I have fashioned this gown from a reclaimed piece of snowy white lace. It features sweet little tulip sleeves adorned in small floral lace trim with long ribbon streamers, tiny bows and love knots. Tucks adorn the front shoulders and tiny pearls encircle the neckline. There is also a floral scalloped lace trim at the hem of this lovely long gown. The roses on the trim echo the lace in the gown. The back fastens with 3 small pearl ball buttons.

Underneath, a soft white cotton slip features delicate white floral hand embroidery across the chest. Tiny buttons fasten the slip at the shoulders. It is finished with a small shell stitch around the armholes, neckline and all around the bottom as slips from that era were often made. The bottom of the slip comes to the top of the scalloped lace on the bottom edge of the gown.

It can be gently hand washed in cold water and hung to dry. No dryer and no iron for the lace gown. All my fabrics have been washed in baby soap to protect delicate skin.

chest - 21 " ( 53.5cm) around

length - 23" (58.5cm)

* Baby's chest measurement should be 1 and 1/2" to 2" (3 to 5cm) smaller than this for ease.
