Description

Kumihimo is a traditional Japanese technique of braiding, with a loom, to create intricately coloured cords. Samurai once used kumihimo for laces on their armor and the traditional belt of the kimono, the obi, was once bound by a cord of kumihimo called an obijime. It is an art both culturally significant and beautiful.

The main media in this necklace is an eyelash yarn of various shades of purple along with amazing accents in turquoise/teal to greens and yellow. I have added in a strand of dark brown chenille and strands of a shredded denim of light and very dark purple.

The beads I used are various colours of seed beads, from a mat purple to metal finish of purples and teal. Then I added in some cultured pearls with an irridescent finish of purple/teal/green.

The ends are finished with a sterling silver plate fancy scrolled end cap and I have added on a length of stainless steel chain so you can wear this beauty at varying lengths.

This necklace can be worn in lengths from 17 1/4" to 21 3/4".

This necklace is also part of a set if you like to have earrings to match. The set and more pictures can be seen at the following link, in my Sets section:
