Short questions i can answer before purchase:

Q: How much wool do I need?
A: More info in tutorial, but here is a brief summary: from 300g to 700g of coarser batting like bergschaf (Tyrol wool).

Q: How long does it take to make one?
A: 8-9 hours for the average felter. I would budget 15 hours for a beginner. You can stop at almost any step and wait days before starting again if necessary.

Q: I'm a beginner. Is it too hard for me?
A: I suggest making a couple of smaller things using wet felting techniques before attempting this. There are free tutorials out there for simpler projects. Especially I would try making a bowl. The cat cave project is a large time and money investment for a beginner, so I would practice on smaller projects first.

CAT CAVES, MATS,TOYS:
Felted wool mats, caves, as well as other natural wool items do not require washing. Wool naturally repels dirt, it is usually sufficient to air felted footwear for odours to disappear.
If necessary, wash the item by hand or in a washing machine on wool or hand-washing mode, use detergent for wool. The items should be washed and rinsed in warm water of the same temperature, as felted things shrink because of temperature variations.
Shape washed items by hand and leave to dry on absorbent surface such as a dry towel.
