Description

Pink Road - the forth experiment with pink space

The object is in the form of a long pink Perspex box, with a semi-circular recess at one end. This box is suspended at eye level along a continuous window, that is parallel to the congested road outside.

The head size recess invites the viewer to physically engage with the box. As a pink visor, it masks the outside world, and the horizontal eye size slot gives a clear uninterrupted view of the interior.

Volumes of sunlight and the shadows of movement, are transmitted through the translucent Perspex to illuminate the space within. Subtly illuminated road markings line the centre and disappear into the space beyond. And with a pink glow, a beautiful idealised scene is created.

Floating like a rear view mirror in the distance, is a small untinted vision of reality... the wheels of the stationary cars as they queue on the road outside.

Pink Road - sculpture / installation art by Michael Seal, for the Maze group show Lost Highway - June 2004
Size: 2400mm x 400mm x 200mm.
Materials: Perspex, mirror, LED lamps, vinyl, 6ft fluorescent tube lamp.
