Vintage from the 1950s

Material

metal

This is a vintage typewriter type bar bookmark. The type bar has two characters on a type slug that are soldered to a metal bar. These bars come from vintage or antique typewriters that I have salvaged for parts.

These keys come from vintage or antique typewriters and have been cleaned. They are original keys, and may have markings, wear marks, or age-related patinas. Because each type bar sits on a typewriter at a different angle, the type slugs (the pieces with the letters) all sit at slightly different angles.

I come across a lot of typewriters, and when I cannot recondition them or bring them back to life, I take them apart for spare parts. However, the type bars in most machines are sturdy and don't need to be replaced, so I end up with a bunch of pieces I don't need. So, I have dozens and dozens of extra type bars that I decided to make into bookmarks and keychains.

Each typewriter bookmark is about 3.5" long and about .75" wide at the widest, but there are significant differences between bars from different machines.

I have a variety of type bars, so if you want a specific letter, please let me know and I'll see if I have that available. I also have keys from a variety of machines, so your type bat bookmark may look different than those in the photos.

I do ship internationally, so if you are located outside the United States, please contact me for a shipping quote.

Thanks,
Mark

Returns and exchange details

I sell vintage and antique typewriters that are no longer made, some of which are 100 years old or more. As much as I'd love to be able to tell you that they will always be problem-free and last forever, I can't, because they won't.

Older machines can develop problems without notice, even if they're properly maintained and loved. I promise to accurately describe, photograph, or video any typewriter I sell. If you want additional photos or have questions about anything, all you have to do is ask. You can also inspect the machines in person if you are in the Kansas City area.

So, to make a long story short, I will accept most returns, but I do ask that you pay for return shipping. If your typewriter does not work as it should upon arrival, I'll accept a return unless it was sold as a display model. Also, if you do experience a problem, many times there is a simple repair that will solve it. I can often walk you through the repair so you don't have to send the typewriter back.

Shipping policies

Unless otherwise agreed to or specified, I'll ship all typewriters via USPS, FedEx, or UPS at my discretion. I will use the method that is most economical for my buyers, and will ship to anywhere in the continental United States.

If you are located outside of the United States, please contact me before making a purchase. I can usually arrange shipping, but I don't want to make any promises I cannot keep.

As far as packaging goes, shipping typewriters is notoriously problematic for some people. Typewriters have heavy moving parts (the carriages) that can be easily damaged if not properly secured. I lock the carriages on all shipped typewriters if they have that feature, but I may also secure them with additional safety measures. I use a variety of techniques to make sure your machine gets to you in exactly the same condition it was in when I boxed it up.

Please be advised that some typewriters are very heavy, and can weigh 40 pounds or more. These heavier machines naturally have higher shipping costs associated with them.

Etsy keeps your payment information secure. Etsy shops never receive your credit card information.
I accept credit cards, PayPal, or Etsy gift cards. If you absolutely must have a machine and cannot pay me with either of these methods, please contact me so we can try to work out a solution. I know how strong the pull of a vintage manual typewriter can be, and I'll do my best to make sure I get your baby to you.
