Description

1 kiln fired clay, raku house bead that measures about 28mm tall x 15mm wide and about 10mm thick. The bead is partially glazed with texture. The hole for stringing is about 1mm and pretty well centered. This bead leans forward a little when standing.

These beads are similar to those featured in Stringing Magazine, Spring 2010 and Beads2010(cover and page 38).

The raku process produces surface irregularities and can produce small chips, thermal shock lines, color transfer, pin holes and crazing. Raku produces soot most of which can be washed off, but some remains. I have washed and rinsed all beads with baking soda then filed areas that were too rough. The black coloration is absorbed into the surface of the bead and ranges in color from black to light gray. The beads can sometimes smell smoky, especially close to production, but it fades over time. All clay beads are breakable. This is an art piece. These are not toys.

Because of varying computer monitor images, I don't usually don't describe colors in detail, so if you need a specific color and you aren't sure based on the pictures please don't hesitate to ask. I can send more pictures or try to clarify before you make a purchase. Pictures were taken in natural light.

These beads are new and never used.

I can adjust quantities in each listing. You can convo me and I'll change the listing.

All my beads are different, so with pricing I try to categorize them according to difficulty....layers, how many sides are glazed, how big they are, carving etc...

All artists are encouraged by a purchase. I enjoy buying handmade items as much as I enjoy making them. What you buy from an artist won't be perfect. It may not be exactly what you expect, but it is handmade. Buying handmade is unique and rewarding but what I like the most is that it is personal...no two artists do anything the same. I think that is the best part of buying handmade.
