Description

Amazing vintage 60s marigold yellow coat by CuddleCoat designed by Victor Joris*. Many of his designs are featured in the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Collection in New York City. Colorful geometric/ abstract embroidery trim in vibrant reds, blues, yellows and black. Runs continuously down the front center, on collar, cuffs and bottom seam. Lateral French seams. Fitted bodice, A-line princess coat. Back Gabardine wool. Lined with beautiful yellow lining. Back kick pleat. Exceptionally well made. Closes with a metal zipper down the front. Also has ILGWU and Coat and Suit Industries National Board tags.

Excellent vintage condition. Only a few barely noticeable flakes in the embroidery which I honestly thought were part of the design before very close inspection.

Vintage tag Size 10 but since vintage runs much smaller please see measurements for proper fit.

✂-----Measurements (taken lying flat, double where necessary):

Bust: 17"
Waist: 17"
Length: 49"
Hips: 21"
Sleeve length: 22" (from shoulder seam to cuff)

*Victor Joris, the creative talent behind Cuddle Coat, won the Coty Fashion Critics Award in 1969. Apparently, Cuddlecoat was one of the first design houses to create the maxi coat. Victor's first job was at Columbia Pictures in Hollywood as an apprentice and sketcher for famed movie designer Jean Louis. This led to a design position with Cuddlecoat and later with the Jones Apparel Group in New York City, where he designed the Christian Dior Designer Sportswear Collection and the Jones New York line of women's apparel. Three First Ladies, Jacqueline Kennedy, Lady Bird Johnson, and Pat Nixon, all wore his designs. Other highlights included costumes worn by Barbra Streisand in "The Way We Were", Ali McGraw in "Love Story", and his close friend Julie Christie as she received her Academy Award. Publications such as Look, Harper's Bazaar (in which he was featured on the cover), and Women's Wear Daily, as well as The World Book Encyclopedia 1970 Yearbook, printed articles about him. Victor was a member of the Council of Fashion Designers of America and the United Scenic Artists Guild. Many of his coats for Cuddle Coat sold for about $1,000 at places like Giorgio in Beverly Hills.
Over the years Cuddle Coat has manufactured a number of collections for YSL, Louis Feraud and Christian Dior.

Additional policies

Due to the unique nature of vintage items, there might be the occasional slight or trivial imperfection. Although I take great care of the used items once they reach me, please understand that they have had a previous life. Anything out of the ordinary will be accurately indicated in the item description but as I am also human, I may miss a small imperfection. Due to various storage environments, some items may benefit from laundering or dry cleaning prior to use.

If you like a piece of vintage clothing but you need it altered to fit, I am more than happy to provide you a quote for a custom alteration.

Are you looking for a hard to find vintage item? Let me know and I just might have it in my inventory and not listed yet or may be able to find it for you. Send me a message to inquire.
