Slate Cufflinks

Slate is a fine-grained, foliated, homogeneous metamorphic rock derived from an original shale-type sedimentary rock composed of clay or volcanic ash through low grade regional metamorphism. The result is a foliated rock in which the foliation may not correspond to the original sedimentary layering.

This stuff is majorly foliated.

Slate is used for high end roofs all over Toronto. After about 50 years, after these roofs finally needed replacing, the rock would get into peoples yards and turn into dirt. Which is where I found this little piece. In the dirt, around the corner from where I live. It was probably mined in Newfoundland, where much of the roof slate used in Toronto came from.

I've treated the slate with shellac and buffed it so its not too shiny. It comes with high quality sterling silver backings but can be special ordered with the cheap imitation rhodium backings for $55. Convo me if thats your preference.

Comes with a shiny case.
