Description

This is a fine example of a rare and ancient bead from east Java in Indonesia. It is in excellent ancient condition with some surface pitting and slight erosion. It is a classic version of its type.

Beads like this occurred in Southeast Asia from (approximately) the 3rd through the 6th century AD, with concentrations in East Java, Indonesia, where many have been excavated over the years.

This particular bead was purchased by me from a reputable dealer in Bali between 1992 and 1994. Reproductions of this bead are exceedingly skillful, but I can guarantee this particular bead to be authentic - see assurances below.

This bead is about 2.25mm long and 2.36mm wide - on the medium side for a Pelangi bead.

If you are a collector and have questions about his bead, please write to me and I will try to answer them, as well as provide whatever additional photos you may need to convey the particular nature of this bead.

Buying ancient beads on line - or anywhere really - is an activity that is fraught with peril.
I authenticate the items in this category to the best of my ability, yet confidence and trust are particularly important in this area, so I would like to offer a full refund for returns made within two full calendar weeks (14 days) of receipt of the item, if the item returned is exactly the item listed (I make extensive photographs) and in an unchanged condition, with original packaging.

I will not refund shipping.
