This is a tooled leather briefcase with 'Costa Rica' engraved on one side and a dark mark on the opposite side.

This case has a wrap around zipper closure. The interior has two full length leather slip pockets for storing documents.

Length: 14.25 inches
Height: 9.5 inches
Width: 2.5 inches

This case would be said to be in excellent condition if it did not have the dark mark or stain on the one side of the case. The case itself has no rips, tears or holes. The scratching is at a minimum for cases this age. However, the case has a stain on one side and while that stain is not immediately noticeable it is discernible if you know it's there or you inspect it at close range. It is the stain that is the reason this case is priced so low.

About Tooled Leather:

There are a lot of bags out there that are referred to as tooled leather bags. Most traditional manufacturers did not market tooled leather bags.

Tooled Leather is leather that has been worked on with leather tools to carve in a design, pattern, initials or other image for the purpose of decorating the bag.

Tandy Leather Company, which specializes in marketing tooled leather products, says on its website that tooled leather goes way back to the Middle Ages and the process of tooling leather was a closely guarded secret kept among Leather Guildsmen who handed it down from father to son who limited their tooling to basic geometric designs. However, when Cortez conquered Mexico in the 16th century Spanish leather craftsmen learned from those they conquered and expanded frin geometric designs to other patterns like flowers and animals.
