This is a reproduction cartridge of Phantasy Star for Sega Master System. As always, there's something special here. This is the Japanese version, completely retranslated. So why retranslate a game that already has an English language release? Well two reasons. First, there's a smaller font size in use which gives more screen space for an expanded narrative. Far more detailed and interesting story in just the first few minutes of play I gave it. The second reason is for the FM soundtrack. There's absolutely amazing music hidden away in many Master System titles, easily rivaling Genesis. Problem is we never got the FM audio hardware expansion in the USA. Most software titles kept the FM audio intact in the USA despite lack of playback in USA hardware, unfortunately it was inexplicably stripped out of the USA release of Phantasy Star. So even if you get your hands on a Japanese FM expansion add on for your system, you still get Phantasy Star with standard audio. Well now FM AUDIO IS BACK! I made a comparison video here: https://youtu.be/_6jkzsYk2sw.

If you purchase this game I HIGHLY recommend getting your hands on a way to play it with the FM audio unlocked, otherwise you're only getting half an experience here. Drop me a line for recommendations. Eventually I will offer a special edition of the Power Base Converter with FM audio support here at Radd Repro so you can buy the game and the converter as a set (or separately if you've already purchased Phantasy Star). I have a photo of this converter on my Facebook page.

So why is the label purple? Sega Master System games typically have a maroon label right? Well, as part of my continuing effort to legitimize this hobby and let the world know that not everyone is trying to bootleg games, I never want my games passed off as originals. I never want anyone to buy one of my repros they were tricked into thinking was new, so I modify all my labels in some fashion. Usually it's using artwork from a different region or rearranging items/colors. In the case of Sega Master System there's only text on the labels, so I went with a color change that matches the "ADVENTURE ROLE-PLAYING" sticker on the keep case cover. No, I will not use the original color label on request.

Cartridge is clean, tested and working in USA Sega Genesis with Power Base Converter. SRAM battery is brand new. Any problems with compatibility or gameplay and I will issue a refund. Donor cartridges may vary slightly from condition shown in photo. Rest assured I will never send a cartridge with cracks or gouges in it.
Look for me on Facebook @Radd Repro for special requests and announcements!
