Description

This beautiful Micro Double Horn 15mm carved mother of pearl shell crescent bead has been double drilled with a 1mm hole on either side for those wanting to make a bracelet or choker.

It's carved both sides with a smooth, curved surface in the same shape as one of my most popular bead designs, making it a sought-after jewelry supplies item.

These work out to be the same price as the 20mm version of these beads because they're so small and fiddly for the carvers to make. Think lots of sore fingers!

They're predominantly white in colour, but there may sometimes be a hint of yellow on one side.

PayPal is my preferred method of Payment.

AT A GLANCE
Size: Approx 15mm (L) x 15mm (W) - about 0.59in (L) x 0.59in (W)
Thickness: Approx 3mm
Weight: Approx 1 gram
Pieces per pack: 1
Colour: White or ivory, though quite ethereal in appearance as I hope my photos convey.
Material: Mother of pearl shell, also known as nacre, double drilled with a 1mm hole on either side, as shown in my photos. Please note that this shell is "budidaya" - the Indonesian word for "cultivated", not wild harvested. In other words, the shell is farmed in aquaculture projects that bring new income to small coastal communities in this developing nation. My hope is that it also helps to prevent over-fishing in Indonesian waters.
Shipping: This item will ship from Ubud, Bali, via Pos Indonesia registered mail with tracking, and you'll almost certainly have to sign for the package on delivery. I generally ship more quickly than the 3-5 days listed in my shipping profile. Please click the shipping button above for more important information about shipping and returns.

BACK STORY
Mekepung or bull races are held in the west Bali regency of Jembrana from July to October each year.

Madurese migrants introduced the sport to celebrate the end of the rice harvest, and it has become a tourist attraction for one of the least visited regencies on the Island of the Gods.

While I'm not a fan of the use of animals for this type of sport and have never actually seen one of these events, the races are said to be thrilling contests between teams of two young water buffalo harnessed to a chariot.

The chariot is ridden by a jockey who holds onto the bulls' tails as they career down a 2km race course, kicking up dust and sweat.

The water buffalo used in these races are said to be treated with great care, and are fed elaborate diets containing "all sorts of wonderful potions and secret ingredients".

Most of the races happen outside the regency capital of Negara, next to a river estuary in the location of Parancak.
