This is a Coach Navy Blue Leather City Bag Style No 9790. The overall condition of this bag is very good. This bag has a pre-orderly Coach Creed registration number of 0505-234 which means it was manufactured some time before 1994 and after Coach quit identifying New York City on the creed stamp. It looks very much like the Navy Blue City Bag listed in the collage at photo # 5 which is from the 1987 catalog. This is one of the best selling Coach bags in our shop.

This bag has everything you need for your daily carrying needs. It has polished nickel turn locks, an interior zippered pocket, and an exterior slip pocket. This is a Classic Coach Leather Bag that has been a very popular style since Coach introduced it back in the 1980's. This bag has multiple pockets and plenty of room for carrying the things you need.

The one modification of this bag is that the strap has been shortened. The standard City bag has a 44 inch adjustable leather strap that drops as much as 20". However this strap is only 28 inches long and drops a maximum of 14 inches. The price has been reduced to reflect this flaw.

The best description of a Coach Classic bag is usually found in the Coach catalog listing when it is 'newly' introduced' The 1987 Coach Holiday Catalog had this to say about the "newly introduced" City Bag:

No. 9790 City Bag $138. Recently introduced, this new silhouette has already become one of the most popular choices among our consumers. An especially roomy bag for carrying all around town. 3 full length pockets keep things organized: 1 outside along the back for often used items, one under the front flap and one inside with a zipper closing. The wide bottom gives you enough room for a notepad, hairbrush, and other personal accessories. Adjustable shoulder strap and solid brass hardware. Dimensions 11 1/2" x 7 1/2" x 3 3/4". Available in all 10 coach colors. [ A later catalog listing is included in the collage at photo # 5 ]

Dimensions:

Length: 11.5 inches
Height: 7.5 inches
Width: 4 inches

Strap drop: 14 inches

This bag is a bargain at $105.00. In the 1997 Fall Coach Catalog, a Coach City Bag 9790 listed for $220.00. According to on line inflation calculators. $220 in 1997 is equivalent to $325 in 2015.

Condition:

This bag would be in excellent used condition if the strap had not been shortened. Even with this flaw it is very good condition. It is in fantastic structural condition as even though there are some scuffs there are no rips, holes or tears. It has some wear in the form of minor scuffing and wrinkles near the turnlock but it looks like it spent most of its life in a closet in a dust cover. It's major flaw is that the strap has been shortened and is only 28 inches long and drops a maximum of 14 inches. In addition it does not have a Coach hang tag. Please see photos and zoom in for closer inspection.
