Description

This impressive piece is an original Made in France Ink Well.

Bird in Flight flanked by two ink wells, beautifully presented on a near black marble base.

The attention to detail is excellent, the feathers on the wings and the tucked up feet underneath.

The original glass ink well liner are in perfect condition, the makers mark in embossed in the base ORFEAR PARIS.

There are traces of wax in one of the wells, implying it was used to hold a candle to melt a wax seal.

Size - Marble 12" (30.5cm) x 6" (15cm). Height from table top to tip of wing 11.7cm (4 5/8").

The metal tested as silver plate but there are no makers marks or stamps.

Condition - There is one chip in the marble and scratches around the bases of the ink wells (this is where the ink wells have moved slightly during use, the fixing screws have been tightened (see last photo)).

The plating is worn in a couple of places on the well boxes and there are a few black marks and scratches. The top of the bird head shows signs of wear.

Weight - 3.030 kgs (6.680 lbs).
