Item includes a hardcover book "The Red Pony" by John Steinbeck, first illustrated edition, 1945, watercolor illustration by Wesley Dennis. Also comes with original hardbound slip cover case.
Item book is in excellent to near mint condition, free of highlights and page markings. Item slip cover is in good condition.

Author John Ernst Steinbeck, Jr. (February 27, 1902 – December 20, 1968) was an American author of twenty-seven books, including sixteen novels, six non-fiction books, and five collections of short stories. He is widely known for the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel The Grapes of Wrath (1939), East of Eden (1952) and the novella Of Mice and Men (1937). Steinbeck received the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1962 for his realistic and imaginative writings, combining as they do sympathetic humor and keen social perception.


Illustrator (John) Wesley Dennis (May 16, 1903 – September 5, 1966) was an American illustrator, known best for fifteen children's books about horses that he created in collaboration with writer Marguerite Henry. He illustrated over 150 books in his lifetime, including Anna Sewell's Black Beauty and John Steinbeck's The Red Pony. He also wrote and illustrated a few books of his own, among which are Flip, Flip and the Cows, Flip and the Morning, and Tumble.
