Description

My Chaos range of glassware is produced from the leftover glass remaining when sheets of hand-made glass are manufactured. I get these from the one remaining factory producing glass this way in the UK

This bowl is 18 - 22cm across and 4 - 6 cm high. It weighs 0.75 kg.

A piece of glass is left over when a sheet of glass is produced by hand. In shape, this is like the top few inches of a 2 litre soft drinks bottle. This is softened in the kiln to the point where it starts to collapse and spread under its own weight, forming an irregular, roughly elliptical shape, often with holes or splits. Once this has cooled and any imperfections have been removed, it is placed into a mould inside the kiln and re-fired to slump it to shape.

Because of the likelihood of holes or splits, this range is not suitable for liquids.

The results are completely unpredictable, hence the name of this range - Chaos in the Kiln.
