Description

For your consideration is this beautiful, early 20th century souvenir spoon manufactured in sterling silver.

The spoon has the word "Illinois" cut out of the handle and the bowl is decorated with three impressive Chicago buildings of the period: the NW Railroad Station, the City Hall & Courthouse & the Post Office. Illinois was the 21st state admitted to the Union, which occurred in December of 1818, and the state is currently ranked fifth in the nation in terms of its population.

A terrific addition to your - or someone else's - sterling spoon collection, the spoon measures 6.125 -6 & 1/8 - inches from the tip of the bowl to the tip of the handle. The bowl is 2 inches long by nearly 1.25 inches wide at its widest point. It is marked "Sterling" on the back of the handle and has an impressed mark that is an owl with a "W" inside it. This is the mark used by the Weidlich Sterling Spoon Company of Bridgeport, CT.

All in all, the spoon is in very good condition with a bit of wear that's consistent with its age.
