Description

This fantastic c1970 black hard plastic and shiny metal afro pick/comb featuring a handle topper of a nicely detailed Black Power fist — an iconic symbol of the era — remains factory sealed in its original packaging! Four of these picks are available; pricing is for one pick.

Each authentic vintage pick is 6” long overall, 3” wide and has 12 metal teeth that are just over 2.5” long. The rigid black plastic handle is two-sided, so you see both sides of the clenched fist that's fairly detailed (for example, embossed life lines show on the palm side, while veins show faintly on the top of the hand).

Printed in white on both sides of the package's purple cardstock header with an unpunched round hang hole is "Afro Hair Styler / No. 1291 / Made in Hong Kong." Also printed near the top of the header is the script capital letter "L" with two lines through it — presumably the logo of the (unknown) manufacturer.

"Hong Kong" is embossed in tiny letters on one side of the handle, just above the teeth.

This pick is great for its intended use (lifting, shaping and untangling), to round out a vintage hair styling tool collection, as part of an art piece, a costume accessory or even as a prop for a vintage photo shoot. Why go out and buy cheap modern imitations of these iconic 1960s-70s hair styling tools when you can get the real deal right here?

The items I offer are vintage/antique and typically show signs of wear consistent with age and use. I go above and beyond to research and describe each item and its condition thoroughly and accurately, and also include clear, detailed photos for your review. I'm proud to say that Third Floor Retro's feedback ratings reflect this attention to detail!

If you need more details or photos of an item prior to buying, please don’t hesitate to convo me. I’ll gladly answer any questions that may help you decide if an item is right for you. After all, I want you to be happy with your purchase! :)

I value great customer service — as both a buyer and a seller — and am committed to doing all I can to fix any issue that may arise. If the issue is anything other than a listing inaccuracy, you will be refunded the value of the item only (not the original or return shipping costs), minus a 20% restocking fee.

If by unfortunate chance your item arrives damaged due to shipper mistreatment, contact me within 24 hours of delivery. You’ll need to retain the item, shipping label, box, all interior packaging and take photos of the damaged item. A damage claim can't be filed without these items!

Shipping policies

Your item will be packaged with utmost care, using clean recycled items like bubble wrap and boxes when possible. Doing so reduces shipping costs and pleases Mother Nature. I’m confident you’ll be pleased when your package arrives!

I charge only actual shipping fees using primarily U.S. Post Office Priority Mail service, which has proven to be speedy and reliable (and automatically includes tracking and insurance up to $100). Large, heavy items are typically shipped via FedEx Home Delivery service.

Know that I have a great track record for getting orders shipped out within one business day (oftentimes within hours!) of payment confirmation.

If you’d like me to use a faster shipping service, a cheaper shipping method, to add insurance or arrange for signature confirmation please just convo me prior to shipping and I’ll gladly recalculate costs!

And combined shipping? For sure! If you don't convo me before buying, no problem: I promptly issue refunds for shipping overages of $2 and up.

All listed shipping prices are for the contiguous United States. Please convo for rates to Alaska, Hawaii and international destinations prior to purchase. Please bear in mind that international buyers are responsible for all customs duties, taxes, levies or fees — and that the shop is not responsible for delays due to customs.
