Description

The original of this beautiful St Edward the Confessor medal came from France, so the name Edward is spelled the French way as "Edouard". Antique St Edward medals are quite rare, so I was quite lucky to find this one to offer in my shop!

Edward was born a prince in 1003. His parents were King Ethelred II and Queen Emma. When Ethelred lost his throne, Edward and his brother, Alfred, were sent to Denmark to be killed, but their lives were spared and they were sent to Normandy until they could return to England to regain the crown. Alfred died in 1035, and Edward became king of England by popular acclaim in 1042. He was a just and generous ruler and a religious man who helped the poor and repealed unjust taxes. He married at the request of his people, but reportedly he and his queen lived together chastely. He built many churches, including Westminster Abbey.

This medal is made of sterling silver and will come with a matching holy card in an organza gift bag, so it's ready to give as a present to someone else or yourself.

Size: 5/8 inch, excluding the bail
Material: Sterling silver. Chains are also sterling silver.

UK buyers should be aware that orders totaling £15 or more may be subject to an additional 20% VAT and a £8 postal handling fee charged by the Royal Mail. I cannot legally undervalue your purchase to circumvent these charges.
