Rain Forest 1 1/2" x 4 1/2"

I paint each tiny sumi-e painting on a piece of silk ribbon 1 1/4" (34mm) wide. The painting is backed with white paper to keep the background paper from showing through the delicate silk, then mounted on a pretty background paper with a strip of complimentary design or color at the top and bottom of the painting. This is in turn mounted on the white paper scroll with wooden dowels at top and bottom.

I've always been intrigued by the minimalist style of sumi-e ink painting. The artist suggests parts (the essence) of the landscape, which stimulates the imagination and draws the observer into the painting. My bonsai trees and silk painted scrolls were featured in the April 2013 issue of American Miniaturist.

Each collectible miniature would stand on its own as a piece of art, or take pride of place in your miniature setting. It would also be an exquisite addition to a journal cover. Or you might place it in a protective clear plastic sleeve and use it as a bookmark, although you won't want to hide this tiny gem between the pages of a book!

I have signed and dated the back of each scroll.

Please remember that monitors vary, so colors may not be exact.
