The Vintage Chicken Coop – constructed from new or recycled or new materials - is perfect for raising a few backyard chickens anywhere – whether it be in the city, suburbia – or out in the middle of the wide open countryside.

The coop is 8’ Wide x 4’ Deep, and measures 6’ High at the front, sloping to 5’ high in the rear of the coop. The measurements and materials list can easily be modified to create a coop smaller or larger simply by increasing or decreasing the listed lengths and widths.

With just under 32 square feet of floor space, the mini-coop has plenty of room for raising 12 to 16 hens – depending on the size of the outside run that can be added to the chicken door in the rear. That’s more than enough to keep a family of four supplied with fresh eggs – with enough left over for the neighbors, friends and family!

This coop looks really nice and the instructions were very easy to follow. We were able to complete most of the project in one day (we still have the roof and trim to do). The only complaint is that some of the measurements were off. Thankfully, my brother (who helped us build it) has done carpentry in the past and was able to recognize the issue and fix it rather quickly. Other than that, we are really happy with the design and easiness of the project!

After much deliberation, we ended up deciding to purchase a coop from a local coop builder. The coop we’re purchasing has much more ventilation, for our Florida summers. Plus, we just had that hurricane roll through… so it made me think twice about using all 2x4s for the build. We’re purchasing a 4x4 frame, cypress wood, with 2x4s in between. You could change this design to fit 4x4s for the main frame. Good overall design & directions.

This was exactly the style coop I was looking for! Instructions were simple, and when we did have questions Jim was super quick to respond and help out! We havent finished putting the siding on, but the building is complete and once we get our roosting bars put up, our ladies and gents will have a new home!
